Meanwhile, David Archuleta's interpretation, as usual, had no connection to the song's lyrics, but he should be OK since he's just 17! And he held his notes for a long time! Best summary: "I think his father was relieved that he didn’t have to shank the judges or lock his son in the washing machine for a bad performance. Because that would just get messy." Randy Jackson, meanwhile, exemplified all that was wrong with American Idol when he told Archuleta that he should have done "more runs" on the sober Beatles song. Huh?

Too many layers of irony: Seattle band Doxology is accusing American Idol, a show based entirely on karaoke, is being accused of plagiarism for permitting David Cook's to copy their cover of "Eleanor Rigby." It does seem to have been an exact copy, but whose lesser known version was he supposed to imitate in order to sound original? Aretha's? Or Ray's definitive cover? I don't think so.
