Huge delegate gain for Obama

In a single night in Iowa, he has gained gained nine delegates (Marc Ambinder says ten). And as Ambinder notes, Hillary netted just 9 delegates from Ohio.

A pretty stunning gain out of Iowa for Obama, where an Iowa Democratic official confirmed to me just now that the county convention results will translate into a 25-14-6 edge for Obama over Clinton and Edwards.

That's a gain of nine for the Illinois Senator over the results reported in January, while Clinton lost one delegate. (Edwards lost eight).

It's a welcome -- and meaningful -- gain for Obama on a tough weekend, and a result both of his long, hard work in Iowa and of a situation in which Clinton's attacks seem to be turning off party activists.

UPDATE#1: Looks like Obama gained 9 and Hillary lost 1, for a net of 10. Big winner: Obama. Big loser: Clinton. Bigger loser: Edwards, whose 23 delegates nationwide seem to have just fallen to 14. He should have endorsed before Ohio, when it would have mattered. Now he's got little left to trade with.

UPDATE #2: Final results from California are out, and Obama gained 5, while Hillary gained 2. For the evening, looks like a net of 10 from Iowa and 3 from California, for a total gain of 13 relative to Clinton. That is huge. To give you some idea of how hugeL given the way delegates are allocated in Pennsylvania, Clinton may not net 13 delegates even with a 10 point primary victory there.
